Yep, square pom poms : )
posted by Claire.
Start with a brightly coloured ball of yarn (I used neon red and pink), and begin to wrap it around all four fingers.
When you have a nice thick layer of yarn, cut the end off. Take another length of yarn and thread it around the middle, inbetween your second finger and ring finger.
Slide the whole thing off your hand, and tie the threaded yarn tightly. Cut through the loops all the way around.
Now you have a scruffy pom pom. It needs a trim, start to cut a rough square shape.
Gradually cut your pom pom into a neat square.
Voila!
To make a garland, use a large needle to thread your pom poms together. Hang everywhere!

Thanks Fiona ๐ I was on a pretty heavy dose of antibiotics and painkillers when I made them, perhaps that had something to do with it, ha.

Omg this is genius Claire!!! Going to try it out this weekend, you’ve made my Friday!
Hey thanks Helen! You deffo should try, they are super-satisfying to make. I actually have another set on the go to give to someone – I’m using two colours per pom pom. I’ll post a pic when they are done ๐ Would love to see yours if you make them!

Neat idea! Thanks a lot for the clear pictorial instructions! ๐
Thanks! ๐
genius!
Thanks Wendy!!
So cute I’ve tried these and they don’t puff for some reason. Any tips?
Hi Emma – you could try using more yarn. The more you use the thicker and puffier they will be. I also gently patted the pom poms into shape as I was going to make sure I didn’t lose the square-ness. Hope that helps!!!

how much yarn does it take to make one pom like this? Did you use that whole skein of red yarn your holding in the first picture for one pom, or more than one?
Hey April! This was quite a while ago so I can’t quite remember, but I don’t think it was a whole skein for each pom pom. Maybe half? They are pretty small.
